Dr Preen specializes in clinical neuropsychology.

Dr. Preen is the founder and clinical director of Farmington Valley Neuropsychology Associates, LLC, specializing in clinical neuropsychology. She has over 15 years of experience in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of both adults and children with one or more neuropsychological deficits that include Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Sports-related Concussions, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), learning disorders (reading, writing and mathematics), mood disorders (depression, anxiety, bipolar and schizophrenic disorders), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Huntington’s Disease, Dementia and White Matter Diseases.

Dr. Preen is a member of the International Neuropsychological Society (INS), American Academy of Clinical Psychology (AACN), National Academy of Neuropsychology (NAN) and American Psychological Association (APA) – Division 40 Clinical Neuropsychology. Dr. Preen also holds a clinical associate position at the University of Connecticut, School of Medicine, where she gives seminars and supervision to medical residents and fellows, neuropsychology externs and psychology interns. Additionally, she gives seminars to post-doctoral fellows in clinical neuropsychology at Yale University, School of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery and workshops to psychiatric residents at Yale University, School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry, CCMC and workshops to clinical and psychiatric residents of UCHC. She was previously an adjunct faculty member of both Central Connecticut State University and Southern Connecticut State University where she taught Abnormal Child Psychology, Infant and Child Development, and General Psychology.

Dr. Preen has presented at several conferences, nationally and internationally, on a variety of topics that include ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorders, White Matter Diseases, multi-cultural aspects of family therapy, and resiliency factors in non-substance abusers.

Dr. Preen was a clinical examiner for a cohort study, collecting longitudinal data on patients with Huntington’s Disease. She also collected data for a gait and balance study (BAGEL) at the University of Connecticut Health Center. The study is concerned with the cognitive functioning of a geriatric population greater that 80 years of age.

At Yale University, School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Preen was an active member of various research projects, including the pre-dormal study of individuals with a familial history of schizophrenia, the efficacy of Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and Transcranial Magnetic Simulation (TMS) on depression, and normative data collection for African Americans with dementia. She has presented workshops to post doctoral fellows at the Department of Neurospsychology as well as psychiatric residents and fellows at the Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Preen currently resides in Connecticut with her husband, two adult children, two rescued dogs, and a service dog. She has extensive professional and personal experience working with college preparatory schools, private schools, public schools, and colleges. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, painting, and playing the piano. She is a co-founder of Carter Kits (https://carterkits.org/), a non-profit organization providing sensory kits and training to First Responders who encounter individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. She is also a Board Member of Key Human Services (https://www.khs.org/about-us/boards-of-directors/) and founded an animal rescue group www.friendsofHamlet.org.
